Free CV Maker — Create Your CV Online

Create a CV online in minutes with this free CV maker. Type in your contacts, work history, education and skills, and your CV builds itself on a live A4 page in a classic or modern layout. Save it as a PDF in one click — no account, no watermark, and nothing you type leaves your browser.

Your résumé is built only in your browser: the data is not sent to our server or saved anywhere. The one exception is the “Improve with AI” button: it sends the AI service only the text of its own block, never your name or contacts. Reloading the page clears the form, so print or save the PDF first.

How to create a CV online in 7 steps

Fill in the form on the left and every change appears on the page instantly. Only your name and one contact detail are required; add the rest as you go.

Resume generator

  1. Name and target job title. Use the title exactly as it appears in the job posting — “Frontend Developer,” not “web person.” Recruiters and screening software search for those exact words.
  2. Contact details. An email or phone number is required. City and a LinkedIn or portfolio link are optional.
  3. Short profile. 2–4 sentences (up to 1,000 characters): who you are, your experience, your strengths and what you want next.
  4. Work experience. Job title, company, dates and results (up to 2,000 characters). Still there? Tick Present. Add up to 15 jobs and reorder them with the ↑ ↓ arrows — most recent first.
  5. Education. School, field of study and dates. Still studying? Tick Present or choose a future graduation year. Up to 10 entries — courses and certificates fit here too.
  6. Skills. One per line or comma-separated, up to 30. Languages go here as well: “Spanish — B2.”
  7. Layout and PDF. Choose Classic or Modern, click Print / Save as PDF and pick “Save as PDF” as the printer.

Save your PDF as soon as you’re done: the CV maker stores nothing, so reloading the page clears the form.

A free CV creator with no catch

Many popular CV builders ask you to sign up before you can download, and “free” often means a trial or a single document. This free CV creator skips both.

What this CV maker doesn’t do

  • No photo field — which suits UK, US and Canadian applications, where photos are usually left off.
  • No Word export — open the finished PDF in Microsoft Word and it becomes an editable document.
  • No import of an old CV — paste your text into the form fields.
  • No saved drafts — that’s the trade-off for privacy; download your PDF before closing the page.

CV maker, CV builder or resume builder: what’s the difference?

CV maker, CV creator, CV builder, CV generator and resume builder all name the same kind of tool: you type your details into a form and it lays out the document for you. Whichever term you searched for, this is it.

The documents differ more than the tools. In the UK, Ireland, Europe and much of the world, a CV is the standard job-application document, usually 1–2 pages. In the US and Canada, a resume is that concise document, while a CV is a longer academic record used for research and teaching roles. So if you need to create a resume for a US job, use this tool the same way — just keep it to one page and set the paper size to Letter.

Classic or modern CV layout

Both layouts show the same data, so you can compare them on your own CV with one click. When in doubt, go classic.

 ClassicModern
LookCentered header, section titles with a thin rule, no colorDark-green header, accent headings
Best forFinance, government, law, healthcare, manufacturingMarketing, design, tech, sales, startups

How to download your CV as a PDF

The Print / Save as PDF button opens your browser’s standard print dialog. Choose the virtual printer “Save as PDF”:

  • Chrome, Edge, Opera (Windows, macOS): Destination → “Save as PDF” → Save.
  • Safari on Mac: PDF menu at the bottom of the print dialog → “Save as PDF.”
  • Android: choose “Save as PDF” at the top, then tap the round PDF button.
  • iPhone and iPad: in Print Options, tap the Share icon → “Save to Files.”

For a PDF that matches the preview: keep the scale at Default, turn off Headers and footers (or the page URL and date will print), and if the Modern header comes out white, turn on Background graphics. Applying in the US or Canada? Switch the paper size to Letter and check the preview.

What to put in a CV: section by section

Recruiters skim first. In Ladders’ 2018 eye-tracking study, the initial screen lasted 7.4 seconds on average, and simple layouts with clear sections held attention best. The study shares little about its sample, but the lesson holds: make the essentials visible at a glance.

Header: name, title, contacts

Full name, target job title, phone, email, city and a LinkedIn or portfolio link. Leave out your full address, date of birth, marital status and photo for UK and US applications.

Personal profile: 2–4 sentences

Formula: who you are + experience + key strength + what you want next.

Example: “Customer success manager with 5 years in B2B SaaS. I cut churn and grow accounts through data-driven onboarding. Looking to lead a CS team at a scaling product company.”

Work experience: results, not duties

Write 3–5 bullet points per job. A reliable pattern is the XYZ formula shared by Laszlo Bock, former head of People Operations at Google: accomplished X, as measured by Y, by doing Z.

  • Weak: “Responsible for the company’s social media.”
  • Strong: “Grew the brand’s Instagram from 4K to 11K followers in 6 months and lifted social-driven sales by 30% with a weekly content plan.”

No exact numbers? Show scale: “team of 5,” “30+ orders a day,” “12 client accounts.”

Education and certificates

School, degree and dates are enough once you have work experience. Add relevant courses and certifications as separate education entries.

Skills: 8–15, tailored to the job

Lead with hard skills (software, tools, languages, certifications), then soft skills your experience backs up. Mirror the job posting’s exact wording.

Length

One page for most people — and almost always in the US; two pages at most for senior roles. Page breaks are marked in the preview, and job entries never split across pages.

How to make a CV with no experience

Use the experience section for internships, volunteering, freelance gigs, part-time jobs and class or personal projects — with the same “action → result” bullets. In your profile, say what you’re studying and how you can help a team now. Empty sections never appear on the page, so a first CV won’t look like it has gaps.

Is your CV ATS-friendly?

Yes. A PDF saved through the print dialog contains real, selectable text, so an applicant tracking system (ATS) — the software employers use to parse and search CVs — can read it. For the safest result, choose the Classic layout, mirror the posting’s wording in your title and skills, and don’t replace text with icons or emoji.

Online CV creation on your phone

No app needed: open this page in your phone’s browser. The form and preview stack vertically, and you save the PDF through the standard Android or iOS print screen — ready to attach to an application straight away.

Your data stays on your device

Your CV is built right in your browser. We don’t send what you type to a server, store it in cookies or local storage, or pass it to analytics. The only exception is Improve with AI: it sends just the text of that one block — no name or contact details — and nothing is stored. Details are in our privacy policy.

AI help with wording

With a free account, an Improve with AI button appears next to your profile and each job description — up to 10 requests a day. It fixes grammar and tightens wording but never invents experience, numbers or achievements. Apply or dismiss each suggestion.

7 mistakes that get CVs skipped

  1. An unprofessional email like partyguy99@…
  2. A typo in your phone number or email.
  3. Walls of text with no results or numbers.
  4. Buzzwords like “team player” without proof.
  5. Sending the same CV to every job.
  6. Vague dates — list month and year.
  7. Three pages or more.

FAQ

Is this CV maker really free?

Yes. Building, previewing, printing and saving your CV as a PDF are free, with no download limits, watermarks or hidden fees.

Do I need to sign up to create a CV?

No. Open the page and start typing — an account is only needed for the Improve with AI button.

How do I download my CV as a PDF?

Click Print / Save as PDF and choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. On iPhone, tap Share in Print Options → “Save to Files.”

Can I save my CV as a Word document?

The CV maker exports PDF. If an employer asks for Word, open the PDF in Microsoft Word via File → Open — it converts into an editable document.

Can I add a photo?

No, the CV maker creates CVs without a photo. For UK, US and Canadian applications that’s the norm.

Can I use it to create a resume for US jobs?

Yes. Keep it to one page, set the paper size to Letter in the print dialog, and leave out the photo and date of birth.

Is my data saved?

No. Nothing is sent to a server or stored in your browser, which is why the form is empty after a reload.

Can I create a CV on my phone?

Yes, in any mobile browser — no app required.

Is the CV ATS-friendly?

Yes. The PDF contains real text that applicant tracking systems can read; the Classic layout is the safest choice.

How long should a CV be?

One page for most people, two at most. Page breaks are marked in the preview.

What’s the difference between a CV and a resume?

In the UK and Europe, a CV is the standard application document. In the US and Canada, that document is called a resume, and a CV is a longer academic record.
